Max Einstein: Rebels with a Cause

With this massive global crisis surrounding COVID-19, a lot of us are getting more time at home and for me, that means MORE TIME TO READ! It's been really nice to be able to tackle some of the books that I've been meaning to get around to for a long time. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep it up despite having to teach online and also take care of a crazy toddler.

Max Einstein: Rebels with a Cause is the second book in the Max Einstein series. I gave a really brief summary of the first book in this blog post last year. I have really enjoyed this series because of it's focus on a teen girl who loves STEM which isn't something you see a lot in middle-grade/YA literature. I think that it is a great series for teen girls who don't see women representatives in STEM in their own lives and might be passionate about pursuing it in the future.

Max Einstein: Rebels with a Cause picks up a little while after the first book ends. The child prodigy, Max Einstein, is now undercover hiding from the Corp, an evil organization bent on stopping Max and her friends from bettering the world through their talents. Luckily, Max always seems to be just one step ahead of them as she travels across the globe. In this book, the focus for her and her team is providing clean water access wherever they can. But will the Corp finally catch up with her?

Honestly, this series has a really simple plot. It's not meant to be something super complicated or have twist endings. You basically know what is going to happen from the beginning. But it's a nice heartfelt story. Max and her friends genuinely want to help people and they use their smarts to do so. It's pretty straightforward.

But that's not to say that there aren't interesting things in this book. I love all of the characters. They've got fun personalities even though some of them are stereotypical. There is also the mystery surrounding who Max Einstein is. Raised in an orphanage, she doesn't know where she came from, who her parents are, or why she is such a genius. I'm hoping that maybe some of those questions will be answered in the next book.

The third book in the series, Max Einstein: Saves the Future is supposed to be published at the end of August. I will definitely recommend this book and the rest of the series to any kid or young adult who loves a quick and easy read, STEM, or cool female role models.
