My Most Anticipated Books of 2019!!!

An unfortunate side-effect of being an English teacher, a book blogger, and an avid reader is that my TBR list is constantly growing! And not only do I have to add all the books I want to read that already exist, but also the books that will be coming out soon. And it's always so fun to share in the excitement that authors have about their new books coming out!

So let me share with you a few of the books that I'm really excited to read when they come out later this year:

Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell
Expected Publication: September 24th, 2019

I'm super excited for this book because of my great love for the first book in this series Carry On which is the story of Simon Snow, the chosen one, and his friends Baz and Penny. I like to describe this book as a Harry Potter fanfiction...which can sound kinda lame but it has its own unique story and characters that make it so good! But it has all the things you like in a fantasy novel--wizards, mystical creatures, schools of magic, etc.

Anyway, Wayward Son is the sequel and it details Simon and his friends' experience as they road trip across America and what happens when everyone is supposed to live "happily ever after."

The Library of Lost Things by Laura Taylor Namey
Expected Publication: October 8th, 2019

Here is the Goodreads summary of this book: "From the moment she first learned to read, literary genius Darcy Wells has spent most of her time living in the worlds of her books. There, she can avoid the crushing reality of her mother’s hoarding and pretend her life is simply ordinary. But when a new property manager becomes more active in the upkeep of their apartment complex, the only home Darcy has ever known outside of her books suddenly hangs in the balance.

While Darcy is struggling to survive beneath the weight of her mother’s compulsive shopping, Asher Fleet, a former teen pilot with an unexpectedly shattered future, walks into the bookstore where she works…and straight into her heart. For the first time in her life, Darcy can’t seem to find the right words. Fairy tales are one thing, but real love makes her want to hide inside her carefully constructed ink-and-paper bomb shelter.

Still, after spending her whole life keeping people out, something about Asher makes Darcy want to open up. But securing her own happily-ever-after will mean she’ll need to stop hiding and start living her own truth—even if it’s messy."

It sounds like an awesome book. Especially because I always love books about books and bookstores and book related things. So I'm not sure yet if I'll like this book...but it looks amazing and I can't wait to give it a chance. Also...books and romance. You just can't go wrong!

Rick Riordan Presents Books

Rick Riordan and his publishing company have been doing such an amazing job of finding authors who can write diverse books using mythology from all around the world. These stories cover such a wide variety of cultures and bring a lot to the table that attracts the fans of Percy Jackson and Riordan's other stories. There are quiet a few coming out this year and the ones that I am looking forward to are these three:

Tristan Strong Punches A Hole In The Sky by Kwambe Mbalia
Expected Publication: October 15th, 2019

"Tristan finds himself in the middle of a battle that has left black American gods John Henry and Brer Rabbit exhausted. In order to get back home, Tristan and these new allies will need to entice the god Anansi, the Weaver, to come out of hiding and seal the hole in the sky. But bartering with the trickster Anansi always comes at a price. Can Tristan save this world before he loses more of the things he loves?"

The Fire Keeper (Storm Runner #2) by J.C. Cervantes
Expected Publication: September 17th, 2019

The Storm Runner is another book that gets checked out of my classroom library very often so I'm excited to see that the sequel will be coming out soon! "In this cleverly plotted sequel to The Storm Runner, the gang is back together again with spirited new characters, sneaky gods, unlikely alliances, and secrets darker than Zane could ever have imagined. Secrets that will change him forever." Jennifer Cervantes does an amazing job of weaving Mayan mythology into this intense story.

Race to the Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse
Expected Publication: October 2nd, 2019

"Lately, seventh grade Nizhoni Begay has been able to detect monsters, like that man in the fancy suit who was in the bleachers at her basketball game. Turns out he's Mr. Charles, her dad's new boss at the oil and gas company, and he's alarmingly interested in Nizhoni and her brother, Mac, their Navajo heritage, and the legend of the Hero Twins. Nizhoni knows he's a threat, but her father won't believe her. When Dad disappears the next day, leaving behind a message that says 'Run!', the siblings and Nizhoni's best friend, Davery, are thrust into a rescue mission that can only be accomplished with the help of Dine Holy People, all disguised as quirky characters."

One of the things that I love most about the Rick Riordan Presents books is that I am introduced to mythology from other cultures that I'm not really that familiar with. I'm super excited to get to know this one on Native American mythology.

The Beast (Darkdeep #2) by Ally Condie & Brendan Reichs
Expected Publication: October 1st, 2019

The Beast is the sequel to The Darkdeep which is about a small group of friends who discover a terrible secret about their hometown and do their best to protect themselves and their family. I highly recommend it for fans of Stranger Things on Netflix. You can read my review of The Darkdeep here. The Beast occurs in the aftermath of the first story as the kids try to get back to their normal life. But when things start spinning out of control yet again, they must dig even deeper into the secrets that their town holds and protect the people and town that they love.

Ally and Brendan came to visit our school this past year and talk about their book. It was a great visit and I loved hearing about how they came to work together and their inspiration for the book. They really got the kids hyped to read it and I had dozens of students who loved reading it! I cannot wait for the second book and the chance to share it with next year's students.

Archimancy by J.A. White
Expected Publication: August 27th, 2019

One of the main reasons that I'm so excited about this book is that I loved J.A. White's Nightbooks that came out last year. It is described as children's fantasy horror. I read it and then immediately shared it with all of my students and had many of them read and enjoy it just like I did. And I love that they are planning on adapting it for a Netflix film. I think it will be great!

So when I found out that J.A. White was putting out a new book this year to kickoff a new series (The Shadow School series), I was super interested. I can't wait to check it out.

Archimancy is about Shadow School in New Hampshire where Cordelia, Benji, and Agnes work together to try to uncover the secrets of the school and the ghosts that seem to inhabit it. They do their best to determine if there is a way to set the ghosts free while battling those who would rather they remain trapped forever.

If it is anything like Nightbooks, it will be fantastic!!
